A ~ Z of Marvelousness: Z is for Zucchini

Zucchini

  • The marvelously versatile Zucchini is from Italy. The French call it "courgettes" and in South Africa they're picked very young and called "baby marrows".
  • The Zucchini plant grows extremely fast and if you plant two Zucchini seeds, you should be able to have enough Zucchini for family of four for a season.
  • I can't wait to take pictures of the beautiful yellow Zucchini flowers and make a yummy Zucchini Flower Tempura afterwards (hopefully from this little seedling on the picture).
  • Here's a couple more recipes: Zucchini Bread and Zucchini Fries

  2. I do love zucchini. Last summer I discovered I could make zucchini fritters that were not only edible but delicious. But chocolate zucchini cake is my favorite.

    Happy Z Day!

  5. Haven't tried to grow zucchini in quite some time. Too many animals come and eat. Now I just pick it up at the farmer's market. I enjoyed your blog this month and look forward to reading it in the future.

  9. I used to live on a mountain. There was a lady who baked zucchini bread when she felt like it and deliver it to a local shop. i enjoyed it so much that she would make a special effort to give me a jingle right before she headed in to the village - so I could meet her baked treasure when it arrived. YUM!!!!

  13. Zucchini was one of the "Z" words that came to mind when I was thinking about what to write for "Z". Great plant and you are so correct about how well they grow. Whenever my family or friends plant zucchini, we give them away to everyone, because there are so many!
